Have You Heard Of The ‘Someday’ Disease?
The ‘Someday Disease’ …It’s far more common than you may think! And you may very well be one of its unsuspecting victims. Read today’s post to find out what I mean…
We’d love to drop all and explore the world outside we tell ourselves, but the time never seems right. Settling into our lives we get so obsessed with holding onto our domestic certainties, that we forget why we desired them in the first place. Vagabonding is about gaining the courage to loosen your grip on the so-called certainties of this world. Vagabonding is about refusing to exile travel to some other seemingly more appropriate time of your life. Vagabonding is about taking control of your circumstances, instead of passively waiting for them to decide your fate. – Rolf Potts
I’ve been a fan of Tim Ferriss for several years, ever since I read his epic book, “The 4-Hour Work Week“, which is still today one of my favorite books…Naturally just about anything he posts to Facebook, I check out with eager anticipation and excitement. Last week, he shared this YouTube video he created promoting Rolf Potts’ book “Vagabonding“. In the video, he quotes the excerpt above from Potts’ book.
The book is about travel, specifically, but this idea of us putting off our desires for “Someday” applies across the board in our lives, not just in travel. We all have big dreams early in life that we want to accomplish, places we want to go, things we want to do…but as time progresses, we put them off for tomorrow, telling ourselves we’ll be more prepared for it when we have the money, the time, when our ducks are all in a row, etc. Haha, have you ever seen ducks walk in a row!? NO! It doesn’t happen…
For all of the important things in life, the timing ALWAYS sucks – waiting for a good time to quit your job, to have a child, to take your dream vacation. Sadly the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. Conditions are never perfect. SOMEDAY is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.” – Tim Ferriss
If you have a dream, don’t wait, don’t put it off for tomorrow. After all, not to be a downer here, but you’re not even guaranteed a tomorrow in life, so make the most of NOW, the present, and go for it! Put off the notion you have to fit into the boxes society has created for us to fit neatly into.
You and you alone create your life. You don’t have to live up to anyone’s standards of what life is or isn’t. So make it the way you want it.
And start TODAY…not “Someday”!
Ask yourself this, and reply in the comments section below, what steps can you take TODAY to start living your dreams now…or at least begin doing the things now that will get you to your dream life in the near future. Because, if you’re just living day-to-day, it’s likely what you’re doing now is never going to get you closer to your dreams.
